Why blocked gutters matter

You don't notice gutters until they stop working.

Then you notice them every time it rains.

Water cascades down the back of the house. A green stripe appears on the render. Fascia boards stain. Damp creeps in around the bedroom window. A pigeon builds a nest, or worse, a squirrel does.

Left long enough, blocked gutters cause actual, expensive damage. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors lists blocked gutters among the most common preventable causes of damp and external wall damage in UK homes. Clearing them regularly is cheap. Dealing with damp walls, rotten fascia, or cracked render is not.

Ground-based vacuum system

Gutter clearing that doesn't touch your gutters

Frog Window Cleaning clears domestic and small commercial gutters across Hailsham and East Sussex using a specialist high-reach gutter vacuum, operated entirely from the ground. No ladders leaning on the gutter, no climbing on the roof, and nothing in the flower beds.

Pricing is fixed by property type, so you see the price before you book. Existing window cleaning customers get a discount when a gutter clear is added to a regular round.

What the service covers

Three reasons this is the right way to clear a gutter

Full-length Vacuum Clearance

A telescopic carbon pole with a vacuum nozzle sucks leaves, moss, twigs, silt, and any nest material straight into a collection hopper on the ground. We work the full run of every accessible gutter, including the awkward corners.

Downpipes and Drainage Checked

A blocked gutter often means a downpipe starting to clog too. We check downpipes are running clear while we’re there, flush the run to make sure it’s falling to the outlet, and flag any joints, brackets, or pooling spots that need attention.

No Ladders, No Damage

Leaning a ladder on a gutter is how gutters get dented and detached. Our ground-based system doesn’t touch the gutter at all. The fascia, brackets, clips, and flashing all stay exactly as they were, and the flower beds stay intact.

What customers say about our gutter clearing

[TESTIMONIAL: ideally mentioning water damage avoided. Example: 'We had water pouring down the back wall every time it rained. Mark booked us in the same week, cleared the gutters from the ground, and the wall's been fine ever since.']

[Paul, Polegate]

[TESTIMONIAL: ideally mentioning add-on with a regular clean. Example: 'Added the gutters on to our regular window clean and got a discount for it. Done on the same visit. Painless.']

[Karen, Uckfield]

A landlord’s rentals in Eastbourne, back in order.

A managing agent had two rental properties in Eastbourne where the gutters hadn't been touched in years. Tenants were reporting damp around bedroom windows. We cleared both properties in an afternoon, flagged a failed downpipe joint that was contributing to the damp, and the damp patches stopped appearing within a month of the gutter work.

What's included in a gutter clearing

Full vacuum clearance of every accessible gutter. Leaves, moss, twigs, silt, nest material, all of it, straight into a hopper on the ground.

Downpipes checked. And, where possible, cleared on the same visit.

Drainage test. A quick flush along the run after clearing to confirm it’s falling properly.

Issues flagged in writing. Loose sections, dropped brackets, leaking joints, we tell you about them so you can plan a fix.

Waste removal. The hopper content is bagged up and taken away, or left in your garden waste bin if you’d rather keep it for compost. Your choice.

A tidy finish. No leaves trodden into the lawn, no bits in the borders.

When to book it

  1. Autumn is the most common time, once the bulk of the leaves are down.

  2. Spring is the second-most common, to clear out anything that rotted over winter.

  3. After a storm, if debris has blown onto the roof and settled in the gutters.

  4. When you spot overflow down the walls during heavy rain.

  5. When you can see greenery growing out of the gutter from the ground.

  6. As a yearly job on the same month each year, so it never gets forgotten.

Why choose us for gutters

Why choose Frog for gutter clearing?

We’re already in the area. Because we run regular window cleaning rounds, a gutter clearing booking usually slots in within the week.

Fixed prices, written down. A 3-bed semi is a set price, a 4-bed detached is a set price. We don’t charge by the hour.

Discount for existing window cleaning customers. Booked alongside a regular clean, a gutter clear is cheaper.

We’ll tell you if you don’t need it yet. It’s a rare conversation, but it happens. We’d rather have an honest chat than take payment for a job that didn’t need doing.

Awkward properties welcome. Bungalows with high eaves, barn conversions with hidden hopper boxes, three-storey townhouses, Victorian bays with parapet gutters. We’ve done most of it.

Fully insured limited company. Certificate available for landlords, managing agents, and block freeholders on request.

Frequently asked questions about gutter clearing

How much does gutter cleaning cost in East Sussex?

Gutter clearing is priced by property type, in the same structure as our window cleaning. A 3-bed semi starts at a fixed price (see the pricing page for the current figure). Adding it to a regular window clean gets you a discount.

How often should I have my gutters cleared?

Most domestic gutters in East Sussex need clearing once a year, usually in autumn after leaves have dropped. Properties near trees or with heavy roof moss often need it twice a year. Coastal properties can sometimes go a little longer.

When is the best time to have gutters cleared?

Late autumn to early winter is most common, once the bulk of the leaves are down. Spring is a good second option, to clear out anything that’s rotted over winter. We work all year round, but the winter calendar fills up quickly.

Do you use ladders?

Not for gutter clearing. We work from the ground with a telescopic vacuum pole. The only time we’d use a ladder is for a very specific job that can’t be reached any other way, and we’d always talk to you about that first.

Do I need to be home when you clear the gutters?

No, as long as we can reach all the gutters from outside. If you have a gated side return, let us know on booking so we can plan access.

Will you damage my gutters or fascia?

No. The ground-based vacuum doesn’t touch the gutter, the clips, or the fascia boards. We don’t lean anything on the gutter and we don’t stand on the roof. The vacuum lifts the blockage out from above.

What if the gutter is broken or leaking?

We’ll tell you. If a joint has split, a bracket has dropped, or a section has cracked, we flag it so you can get it fixed. We don’t do gutter repairs ourselves but we’ll give you an honest description and can point you at a local roofer if you’d like.

Can you clear moss off the roof too?

Roof moss removal is a specialist job we don’t offer. If we see heavy moss during a gutter clean that’s filling up your gutters, we’ll mention a local roofer who does that work.

Can you clear gutters on a bungalow or commercial unit?

Yes. Most bungalows and single-storey extensions are simpler than two-storey homes. Small commercial units (shops, offices, workshops) are fine too, as long as we can reach the gutter from safe ground.

Do you take the waste away?

We can. The hopper empties into a garden waste bag. Most customers are happy for us to tip it in their garden waste bin (it’s good compost). If you’d rather we took it away, we will.

Can I add gutter clearing to my regular window cleaning?

Yes, and it’s discounted when you do. Pick it as an add-on in the booking form, and we’ll do both jobs on the same visit.

What if I've got a blocked downpipe?

We can usually clear it on the same visit using a combination of the vacuum and gentle rodding. If it’s blocked deeper down (for example in an underground run), that’s a drain specialist’s job and we’ll tell you honestly.
